Background
It’s become a bit of a December tradition for @MrSteveMatchett’s followers. The din of Formula 1 engines has faded and the Champions crowned. Conversation on Twitter shifts from championships and race finishes to rice grains and component weights.
In 2010 and 2011, Team Eff-One built the following F1 components from rice:
- Chassis (65 kg)
- Steering wheel (1.3 kg)
- Engine (95 kg)
- Chassis testing material (8 kg)
In 2012, our goal was to finish the gearbox (45 kg) and begin work on the rest of the car. Our original goal was 15,000,000 grains (300 kg). We finished with 17,526,250 grains (350.53 kg).
